Born on July 10, 1953 Arthur Ashe was the first African American participant to play tennis. Ashe started playing tennis on the age of 6. IN 1963 Age became the primary African American player to win the U.S. guys's tough-court championship, and the primary to be named to a U.S. Junior Davis Cup. He became the NCAA singles and doubles champion leading UCLA to the NCAA identify in 1965.

In 1973 Ashe have become the first African American to attain the South African open finals held in Johannesburg, South Africa, teaming up with Tom Okker of the Netherlands and prevailing the doubles.
